Hello Vanessa,

Wow! When a post speaks for itself, all one needs to say is "Amen."

Thank you, manchild. That poem gives me chills each time I read it or hear it recited.

i can't believe this is happening in America of all places..i just visited Shaquanda's blog and came to know that a Caucasian girl was sentenced to probation for arson and Shaquanda will have to waste 7 precious years of her life..this is injustice and criminal and plain biased..

i am so mad at the system and heart broken for the family..

here is what chicago tribune has to say:

Truly, Gods’ Goose Bumps upon the spine of Humanity! My own reasoning in response to this heartfelt poetic emphasis, seem to exist in my poem Lucretia

The only word I can find for that poem is POWERFUL. That one really moved me. You are an inspiration and now i feel like writing up a storm. Keep doing what you do! Nuff love. I am looking forward to more of your writings.

Duane, thanks but I did not write that poem. The author is Dr. Burroughs; she is credited at the end of the poem.

"Blackness is a state of mind and I identify with the black community. Mainly, because I realized, early on, when I walk into a room, people see a black woman, they don't see a white woman. So out of that reason alone, I identify more with the black community." ~ Halle Berry
